We now have a date and location for the next LatamChequea gathering! For the first time, it will take place in Mexico City on Thursday, November 12, and Friday, November 13. The event will be organized by Chequeado in partnership with Animal Político and Verificado.
At this seventh in-person edition, journalists and experts from more than 40 organizations and media outlets across 20 countries—all part of Latin America’s fact-checking network—will come together to share experiences and discuss the common challenges facing fact-checking in the region.
Among the topics to be addressed this year are the role of AI in the spread of disinformation and potential improvements within fact-checking organizations, trends identified in the region regarding specific issues (such as elections, migration, or climate change), media literacy, media sustainability, and how to build social infrastructure with other civil society actors. We will also share the step-by-step processes that various media outlets in the region followed to publish investigative journalism on disinformation and coordinated activities, and we will offer workshops to improve the use of fact-checking tools.
